Estimated Construction Begin: July 2021.The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) obligated funds for this project on April 18,2018 in the amount of approximately $1.4 million. Storm drainage improvements, roadway construction, and guardrail installation will also be completed, along with a waterline relocation. This includes flattening the slopes of the dam, replacing the existing riser structure, and constructing two new 7-foot wide by 3-foot tall box culverts. The City will perform a repair to Devonwood Lower Dam along McFadyen Drive, restoring the dam to pre-Hurricane Matthew conditions, while also bringing the dam up to current standards. The City performed an emergency repair to stabilize the slope however, it was determined that a more permanent repair would be required to meet current NC Dam Safety standards. The overtopping caused slope failure on the downstream side of the dam. The dam supports a portion of McFadyen Drive that was overtopped during the storm.
